Other SASSA Social Grants

Although the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) initiative began as a temporary crisis response, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) oversees a wide portfolio of permanent social safety nets. These established grants deliver ongoing financial relief to eligible, vulnerable citizens.

SASSA Grant Payment Order for August 2026

SASSA pays all social grants in a fixed sequence each month. The SRD R370 grant is always paid last, in the final week of the month.

1. Child Support Grant

The Child Support Grant exists to empower parents, guardians, and primary caregivers to cover the essential living costs of their dependents.

• Monthly Payout: R530 allocated per child.
• Additional Top-Up: An extra R250 monthly is added for orphaned children or those functioning as the head of a household.
• Eligibility Criteria: The applicant (who can be a parent, grandparent, or a sibling over 16 leading the family) must be caring for a child under 18 years old. A strict means test applies (income must not exceed R60,000 annually if single, or R120,000 if married).
• SRD note: Receiving a Child Support Grant for your children does not disqualify you from the SRD R370 grant.

2. State Pension (Older Persons Grant)

Commonly known as the government pension, this fund supplies a stable monthly stipend to senior citizens who have reached retirement age and lack sufficient income.

• Monthly Payout: R2,180 per month (for beneficiaries aged 60 to 74) escalating to R2,200 per month (for beneficiaries aged 75 and upwards).
• Eligibility Criteria: You must be a documented South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee aged 60+. You cannot be living in a fully state-funded institution and must successfully pass both an asset and an income threshold test.

3. Adult Disability Grant

This financial aid package is meant for adults who are medically unfit to seek employment due to severe mental or physical impairments.

• Monthly Payout: R2,180 per month.
• Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be between 18 and 59 years old. A formal medical assessment by a state-appointed doctor is mandatory. The grant can be issued temporarily (if the disability is expected to last 6 to 12 months) or permanently (if the condition extends beyond 12 months).

4. Care Dependency Grant

This specialized grant targets parents, foster families, or primary caregivers looking after a child with profound disabilities who requires constant, dedicated supervision.

• Monthly Payout: R2,180 per month.
• Eligibility Criteria: The dependent must be under 18 and evaluated by a government medical officer. The caregiver is subject to a financial means test (though legally appointed foster parents are categorically exempt from this specific income test).

5. Foster Child Grant

This grant provides financial support to foster parents who have been legally appointed by a court to care for a child in need.

• Monthly Payout: R1,180 per child per month.
• Eligibility Criteria: You must have a valid foster care order issued by a court. The child must be under 18 (or under 21 if still in full-time schooling).

6. Grant-in-Aid

Grant-in-Aid is a supplementary payment available to existing SASSA grant beneficiaries who require full-time care from another person due to their physical or mental condition.

• Monthly Payout: R510 per month (paid on top of your existing grant).
• Eligibility Criteria: You must already receive the Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant, or War Veterans Grant, and a medical officer must confirm you need permanent care by another person.
